What’s On Your Plate replaced the food pyramid in 2011, and is a great way to introduce nutrition and food in the classroom. We love food and health, so we prepared a What is on your plate? printable template that you can print and use on your bulletin board.
The free Food Font alphabet printables are a great fun way to get your nutrition or food-focused bulletin board started. Ready to get started?
Materials Needed:
- Paper to print the food alphabet letters onto (We recommend using white cardstock, but regular paper will do)
- White butcher paper or some colored paper or fabric for the background of your bulletin board.
- Scissors or Cutting Board
- Stapler
- Pushpins
Directions:
- Download Food Font Plate Bulletin Board letters.
- Print the pages onto white paper or cardstock.
- Cut each letter using either a scissors or cutting board, cutting on the grey outlines. (Each letter is 6 x 6 inch)
- Organize your letters on a table, and put them in order of how you want to put them on the board.
- Use a stapler to tack down your background paper or fabric onto the board .
- Use a stapler or pushpins to put up your Food Font alphabet to the board.
- Now that you have the title done, you can add other food or nutrition elements to your board. We have some great ideas and resources below for you to use!

Activities and Other Bulletin Board Elements
MyPlate
MyPlate is the current nutrition guide published by the USDA and is a way to learn about healthy eating. You can use Food Font letters and activities to go with the MyPlate lesson plans and information.
There are many free resources that you can use and add to your bulletin board display.
- You can print out posters from the My Plate Bulliton Board resources. They have a Five Food Groups Poster, MyPlate Graphics, and even Coloring sheets that you can use and add to your bulletin board.
- You also can print out extra graphics from the My Plate Team Nutrition Graphics Library, which has images about breakfast, food characters, menu graphics, my plate segment images, and MyPlate message sheets. These can be printed in color, and add some great information about food to your display.

Got Veggies?
Got Veggies is a education curriculum created for schools that have a school garden, or bring veggies and food into the classroom
- There are a number of great vegetable coloring pages that you can print and use with your class.
- There are also “Crunch the Numbers” worksheets that combine vegetables and math with both in-class and weekly activities.
There is a Got Veggies? Education free Toolkit that you can order or download which has activities that you can do with your class. Some of the activites are a Tasting Lesson, Seeds and Sprouts, Flowers and Fruit, and Garden activities for your class.

The Rainbow on my Plate has class activities that teach about fruits and vegetables, and the role they play in maintaining good health.
